Born in small town Lovington, New Mexico, Mexican American Contemporary Artist, Mauricio Carrasco aims to set the mold of the developing art movement in the new digital age. He challenges the refined classical works of baroque biblical art through his personal lens by contrasting with the unruly, grit of street art and unconstrained Neo-Expressionism. This amalgamation came to be through Mauricio’s Christian upbringing along with his thirst for creativity within the confines of his small town. With limited accessibility to the fine arts, Mauricio began his excursion to find a means of artistic expression that best suited his abilities, thus prompting his beginnings in street art and photography. Not long after his pursuit into the arts, he was recognized by the Lea County Center For the Arts as the first place winner in their annual photography contest under the computer enhanced division.

His pursuit into the world of fine art led Mauricio to Dallas, Texas, where he worked to achieve his BFA in Fashion Marketing and Management at the Art Institute of Dallas. All on his own for the first time, he found himself struggling to stay afloat. With four retail jobs and an internship under his belt, a stroke of luck brought Brian Gibb of The Public Trust & Mikhail Dimov Founder of Ermitage Art Academy into Mauricio’s life where he was able to further develop his skills as an artist. Mauricio’s first ever full body of work titled, Love and Hate, dissects biblical lore through his own lense and interpretation while paying homage to iconic historical pieces such as The Blessing Savior by Fernando Gallego and The Temptation by the Devil by Gustave Doré. Through his work, Mauricio hopes regardless of religious background and upbringing, the viewer will be able to take away his message of love, hope, and positivity.
